Meet new people. Have fun. Get your dance on.

Lindy Hop Auckland is a community group sharing the joy of swing dancing across Tāmaki Makaurau. They teach partnered swing dance, organise social dance nights and perform at events around the city.

Born alongside jazz in 1920s to 1940s Harlem, New York, Lindy Hop was created within African American communities and danced to live swing music in iconic venues such as the Savoy Ballroom. Today it is danced all over the world, from social dance floors to stage performances.

Classes welcome complete beginners as well as more experienced dancers. No partner is required, and partners rotate during class, creating a relaxed and social atmosphere.

Swing Dance Styles You Can Explore

Lindy Hop

Lindy Hop is energetic, playful and musical. It combines rhythm, improvisation and connection between partners. It can be fast and dynamic, but it is also deeply social at its core.

It is the foundation of many modern swing dance communities around the world.

Balboa

Balboa developed in the crowded ballrooms of Southern California in the early 1930s. It is characterised by an upright posture and a close partner connection, while still allowing space for turns and playful variations.

Some dancers explore different styles within Balboa, including Pure Balboa and Bal-Swing.

Lindy Hop Auckland runs regular weekly classes and social events in central Auckland locations, including Mt Albert and Ponsonby.
