Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa
An adults-only Matariki celebration bringing together the stories, traditions and mātauranga shared across Aotearoa and Te Moananui-a-Kiwa, the wider Pacific.
Held after dark at Te Papa, this immersive evening event invites visitors to experience Matariki through live music, cultural performances, kōrero, weaving, interactive workshops and kai in a vibrant after-hours atmosphere.
The programme features performances by KOREKASH, a Māori collective blending R&B, hip-hop and contemporary Pacific sounds, alongside Inano Dance’s Tūrama After Dark, an immersive Cook Islands live music and dance experience inspired by movement, storytelling and Pacific connection.
Visitors can take part in tīvaevae workshops with Tīpurepure ‘Au Vaine, weaving and climate conversations with the Pacific Climate Warriors, and kōrero exploring waka traditions, Pacific navigation and mātauranga Māori with experienced kaumoana and cultural practitioners including Mahara Nicholas and Hinerapa Rupuha.
Throughout the evening, guests can explore the Mānawatia a Matariki hub, enjoy kēmu and creative activities, connect around the fire, and celebrate the cultural connections between Pacific communities, voyaging traditions and the Matariki star cluster.
Suitable for ages 16+.
Cash bar and seasonal kai available.
