An engaging and reflective talk exploring what secular life can learn from religious practice.
An engaging and reflective talk exploring what secular life can learn from religious practice.
In this one-hour session, Professor Niki Harré shares insights from her unique personal experiment, spending a year as a self-appointed secular priest. As an atheist and psychology academic, she immersed herself in religious life by attending church, engaging with Christian writing, creating rituals, and leading Sunday services.
Through this experience, she developed a deeper understanding of qualities often associated with religion, including humility, reflection, listening, connection, and care for others. The talk offers a thoughtful perspective on how these practices can enrich modern secular life, even outside traditional belief systems.
Suitable for anyone interested in psychology, wellbeing, philosophy, and how we live together in an increasingly secular world.
