Make your trip to Portugal or Brazil more enjoyable by learning helpful phrases and vocabulary before you go.
This course is suitable for those new or relatively new to Portuguese language who wish to learn and practise the vocabulary of travel. It runs over two mornings and covers:
- basics of Portuguese pronunciation
- greetings
- introducing yourself
- counting
- asking and understanding directions
- shopping - prices, sizes, colours
- understanding a menu, talking about meals, food, drinks and how to order
- explaining how you feel (headache, nausea, pain etc)
Vocabulary and phraseology covered in the course includes:
- directions
- travel, accommodation, shopping and food
- numbers for time and money
- common medical conditions
Expected learning outcomes:
On completion of this course, we expect learners will be able to:
- grasp the basics of pronunciation
- greet others and introduce themselves
- ask and understand simple directions
- read a menu and know how to order and pay for food
- be able to use simple phrases for asking about sizes and colours
- have a better understanding of culture and traditions
- use simple vocabulary to describe a medical problem
From your tutor about Brazilian and European Portuguese:
Olá. I teach Brazilian Portuguese but the differences between one and the other is minimal. Sort of American English vs British English. During the course, I will explain the differences in-class depending on where the majority of students are travelling.
