Our Summer School workshops are about slowing down, asking questions, experimenting, making mistakes, and developing lasting skills. They're designed for people who want to invest in their creative practice - not just leave with another finished project.
Vitreous enamels are finely ground glass, fused onto metal through repeated firings to create luminous, permanent surfaces unlike any other artistic medium. Combining elements of painting, drawing and printmaking with the transformative effects of heat and glass, enamelling offers endless opportunities for experimentation and personal expression.
Throughout this Summer School you'll explore the creative possibilities of enamel as an artistic medium, discovering how layers of colour, line, texture and transparency can be built up through successive firings. Along the way you'll gain an understanding of the unique qualities of enamels, develop confidence working with the material, and learn techniques that can be applied to your own creative practice.
With many years of experience teaching art, Sarah creates a supportive and encouraging learning environment where curiosity, experimentation and individual expression are at the heart of the process. Rather than simply recreating someone else's work, you'll be encouraged to develop your own ideas, ask questions, explore different approaches, and discover the remarkable effects that can be achieved through this fascinating medium.
