A beginner-friendly workshop exploring the beauty of Chinese ink painting using watercolours.
This 8-week beginner workshop introduces students to the beauty of Chinese ink painting. No art experience is needed.
Students will use watercolours and paper rather than traditional Chinese materials. Through simple exercises, students will explore brushwork, colour, composition, and the feeling of ink painting. At the end of the course, each student will complete one original artwork. Students can choose either:
Bring your own: watercolour paints (blues, greens, pinks, vermillion, cerulean, viridian, rose, burnt sienna), black India ink, palette, brushes (sizes 4, 8, 12), and A4 or A3 sheets of 300gsm watercolour paper.
About the tutor: Ping (Penny) Wei is a PhD candidate in Museum and Heritage Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, where her research focuses on Chinese art, museum interpretation, and cross-cultural understanding. She also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree, combining strong academic research with professional art training.
