Get ready to dive into one of the most exciting and transformative processes in jewellery-making—where your ideas quite literally come to life in metal.
In this inspiring, hands-on course, you’ll design and carve your own pieces in jeweller’s wax—a wonderfully versatile material that allows for both precision and playful experimentation. Whether you’re drawn to clean, sculptural forms or more organic, textured designs, wax carving gives you the freedom to explore.
Once your designs are complete, they’ll be sent away for professional casting, turning your wax models into solid metal pieces. When they return, you’ll step into the role of finisher, learning how to refine, shape and polish your castings into beautiful, wearable jewellery.
There’s something truly special about this process—it bridges creativity and craftsmanship in a way that feels a little bit magical, and it’s incredibly satisfying to see your original ideas transformed into lasting pieces.
Level 1 – Foundations in Wax & Casting
Perfect for beginners, this level introduces you to both soft and hard jeweller’s waxes, each with their own unique qualities. You’ll learn how to carve, shape, add texture, and refine your designs, gaining confidence as you go. We’ll guide you through designing for casting (a skill in itself), and once your pieces return, you’ll learn essential finishing techniques—cutting, filing, sanding and polishing—to bring them to life.
Rings are a great starting point, but you’ll also be encouraged to think creatively and explore forms like pendants, charms, or small sculptural pieces.
Level 2 – Refinement & Stone Setting
For those ready to take things further, Level 2 focuses on developing more advanced carving techniques and introducing stone setting in wax. You’ll learn how to build settings directly into your designs—such as claws or bezels—or experiment with the fascinating cast-in-place technique, where stones are set during the casting process itself. This method produces beautifully organic, one-of-a-kind results and opens up a whole new realm of creative possibilities.
Throughout the course, you’ll be supported in a relaxed, friendly studio environment, with plenty of guidance as well as space to develop your own ideas and style. It’s a great option whether you’re completely new or looking to expand your jewellery-making practice with a new technique.
All wax materials, sandpaper, and courier costs are included in your class fee, so you can focus on designing and making.
Casting and metal costs are additional and vary depending on the size, weight, and material of your pieces—giving you the flexibility to create within your own budget.
