Explore working more loosely with oils or acrylics, guided by Justine Turnbull.

Whether you work from objects, the figure, or secondary sources, this is an opportunity to explore working more loosely, using oils or acrylics.

Justine will guide you through drawing and painting exercises to help loosen you up, and will discuss art historical techniques that may be relevant to your individual artistic style and context.

This course will increase your ability to represent perceived objects in a dynamic, painterly way. You will be guided through drawing and painting exercises to help you achieve accuracy of form, working loosely with oils and acrylics to create fresh contemporary paintings. The emphasis is on working with your chosen source material to create a `next level’ painting. This course is for those who have explored some of the basics of painting such as mixing colours, blending etc, but want to find a process that best expresses your unique approach and ideas. Skills learnt in class can be applied across all genres.

Materials are not included in this course. Materials: Please bring your preferred range of oils, brushes and supports (paper, canvas, or board). A good basic set of oil paints would include cad and lemon yellow, ultramarine and cerulean blue, and cad red and alizarin crimson. Also, black and white. Inverlochy will supply Liquin and gamsol solvent . No other solvents are allowed in this class. Please also bring a photocopied reference image in both black and white and colour.

Lunch break - 30 minutes. Bring a water bottle and packed lunch to enjoy in the historic Inverlochy house or explore the local cafes in Te Aro.
