Upholstery for Beginners
Learn the fundamentals of upholstery in this beginner-friendly course designed for those who would like to refurbish a small item of furniture. Guided by an experienced upholsterer, you’ll learn the basic techniques needed to restore and re-cover simple pieces.
Students should bring a small furniture item or project to work on from the first class. Please note that there are strict size limits, so large chairs are not suitable. As there is no storage available at the venue, all furniture must be taken home after each session and should be small enough for you to carry yourself.
Beginner projects
A beginner project typically requires little or no sewing and focuses on the basics of upholstery, including:
• Removing existing fabric
• Assessing and measuring the piece
• Cutting materials
• Fitting and securing fabric

• Scissors (approximately 20 cm)
• Tape measure (metal spring-loaded)
• Ballpoint pen
• Felt-tip pen
• Flat-blade screwdriver
• Small hammer
