A ballet class for dancers with a few years of training, focusing on technique, alignment, and core strength.
Tutor: Amelia Chandulal-Mackay
This class starts with a 20-minute floor barre to help activate the right muscles in preparation for the rest of the class. You’ll also learn how to engage specific muscles correctly in ballet, maintain proper alignment, and build core strength.
No worries if you’re unable to arrive right at 5:45pm! You’re still welcome to join anytime up until 6:05pm without being considered late. The floor barre during that time will be optional.
Designed for dancers with at least a few years of ballet training, this class builds on the foundation from beginner-level classes, and it introduces steps involving more relevés, head and body directions. You’ll start practicing single pirouettes, chainés, posé turns, and more, along with slightly more advanced allegro steps and more complex combinations, while keeping the tempo manageable. Each term, dancers have the opportunity to combine the steps they’ve learned into a short dance.
This level roughly corresponds to RAD or Cecchetti Grades 4–5. Many dancers stay at this level for several years to strengthen their foundation before moving on to intermediate-level work.
The main content of this class is the same as our Saturday Adult Ballet Upper Beginner class. Some dancers choose to take both each week to reinforce what they’ve learned and enjoy dancing more often.
