A special one-off event celebrating the release of the XYZZY soundtrack on limited-edition vinyl.
XYZZY is back for a very special one-off event, to celebrate the release of the soundtrack on limited-edition vinyl!
Experience the award-winning planetarium show in full, hear from video artist Simon Ward on the making of the show, and enjoy live special live performances from musicians Stef Animal, Eyeliner and Lachlan Anderson.
Created by leading contemporary artist Jess Johnson and director Simon Ward, XYZZY (pronounced 'zizzy') is an immersive art-based planetarium screening like no other.
Developed through a decade of creative work, Johnson’s hand-drawn compositions are transformed by Ward into an animated web of flesh mandalas, self-replicating architecture, undulating worms, hallucinogenic patterns, and messianic alien deities. The dynamic visual atmosphere is charged with 90s-inspired electronic synthesiser tracks from musicians Andrew Clarke, Luke Rowell, Stef Animal and Lachlan Anderson.
Note: This show features strobing effects - some visitors may experience mild motion sickness.
Recommended ages: 14+, parental supervision required.
Spaces are extremely limited; book now to avoid disappointment.
Ka nui te mihi ki Tūhura Otago Museum for supporting this event.
