The basics of lost wax casting for jewellery - in three sessions. Early-bird pricing till 19 October
Over three sessions, create your own unique ring using the age-old lost wax technique. This is a great opportunity to spend a Friday night getting creative and making something you can wear!
In weeks one and two, you will learn how to work with jeweller’s hard wax to design and shape your own ring. Experiment with texture, form and detail to create a one-of-a-kind piece. Your finished wax ring will then be sent away for casting in the metal of your choice.
There will be a week’s break before the third session to allow time for everyone’s waxes to be cast. In the final session, you’ll learn how to trim, clean and finish your cast, transforming your wax design into an original ring ready to wear.
More advanced students can use the sessions to develop their own ring designs in a supportive class setting.
Included in the class fee are all your different types of waxes, sandpaper and courier costs.
Casting and metal costs are not included and will vary depending on the size of your ring and the metal you choose. Small castings can cost around $6.65–$12, with metal costing approximately $7–$30 depending on whether you choose red bronze, white bronze or silver.
This class is suitable for teens and children aged 12 and over. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an enrolled parent or caregiver.
